Scilla madeirensis

As her name suggests, this beauty is native to the island of Madeira and the archipelago nearby, which is located in the North Atlantic Ocean. When I saw that a plant friend of mine had some spare bulbs last year, I did not hesitate and asked if I could have some.

I planted her in pots right away, in October, before we plant anything else on our fields. Some weeks later, in late fall, she produced wonderful flower spikes, in one of the most beautiful lavender shades I have ever seen. What a spectacle in my living room, that lasted weeks long.
