In almost every book about bulbs, written over the last 100 years, Lilium henryi is mentioned. Gertrude Jekyl, an influential English garden designer and writer wrote in 1901 about L. henryi:
“This, though a Lily of recent introduction, promises to be an easily grown garden plant, for it has done well in almost all cases we have heard of where it has had a fair trial.”
Mrs Jekyll had an eye for quality and is proven right, henryi is an easily grown lily that does well in every reasonable garden soil.
