The Zantedeschia: until now I gave her little attention. She deserves better, and for good reason: this flower is something else. Her flower is almost unique in her simplicity. The Zantedeschia might be like a tulip in that regard: she has a simple shape and colour, completely without needless extras. The Zantedeschia has a classic look: she is completely herself with her beautiful, serene appearance.
Until this year, I did not even offer these beautiful flowers in my web shop: the lack of good pictures and time for a quest to find the most beautiful ones were the main reason for that. Taking pictures of a flower you do not know well can be especially hard, but whether it was fate or chance: in the Trial Gardens at Wisley Gardens was a Zantedeschia-trial last weekend. At this Trial, all Zantedeschia’s that are considered for an AGM-Award are shown
In the busy daffodil-time I was lucky enough to be able to leave for a few days, because of course I did not want to miss this. With my son and oldest daughter I spent two days at Wisley gardens looking at Zantedeschia’s: I filled two memory cards with photo’s of them. When I was there, the flowers were at their peak or just past that: I picked the right time, as you can see on the pictures.
With that, the lack of Zantedeschia’s at Fluwel now belongs to the past. With this newsletter, a little sneak preview into our future collection is given: I hope that this amazing flower will charm you!
